The flowers are blooming, the sun is shining, and Colorado is turning green. Spring is truly here. Get outside and enjoy this sampling of May events:

1. Farmers Markets – Various locations- Warmer weather means Farmers Market season. We usually go to the markets off Harmony Rd or Drake and Shields. Additional locations include Loveland (3133 N Garfield) and downtown Fort Collins. At this point, the markets mostly have food trucks, bakeries, crafts, and artisan food. 2. America on Tap Beer Festival – Washington Park – Fort Collins – May 2nd Beer is an important part of our city’s culture. Celebrate by heading down to the festival for samples from 100+ beers from America’s finest craft breweries. Tickets start at $35. http://americaontap.com/front-range-on-tap/

3. Estes Park Duck Race – Estes Park – May 2nd Horse race? Dog race? No, duck race! Adopt a duck or flock of ducks for $20 each and a chance to win prizes. 95% of proceeds benefit charity. And don’t worry; only rubber ducks are used in this event. http://www.epduckrace.org/

4. Cinco de Mayo Festival May – 112 East Willow Street, Fort Collins – May 2nd– 3rdGrab your lawn chairs and head to Heritage Park for a day of dancing, music, and delicious food celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Seating is limited. http://www.fortcollinscincodemayo.com/

5. Colorado Marathon – May 3rdRun (or walk) to the fastest and most scenic marathon in Colorado. The Hilton Fort Collins is the main host hotel. http://www.thecoloradomarathon.com/

6. Spring Creek Gardens Plant Sale – Fort Collins – May 9th -10th Add some color to your garden by visiting the Gardens at Spring Creek. 7. Kites in the Park – May 17th – Spring Canyon Community Park – Kite flying, demonstrations, lessons, and competitions…this isn’t your average event. Watch for the giant dragon, animal, and octopus kites. Free. http://www.visitftcollins.com/events/kites-park-0

8. 25th Annual Fire Hydrant 5K – May 30th – Edora Park – Avoid the guilty look your dog gives you when you leave home and invite them to this pet friendly 5K. Benefits homeless animals. http://www.visitftcollins.com/events/25th-annual-fire-hydrant-5k

9. Poudre River Fest – Legacy Park – Fort Collins – May 30thMusic, food, dancing, and educational opportunities equals family fun along the Cache la Poudre River. Proceeds support local conservation and nonprofit groups. http://www.poudreriverfest.org/

10. Old Town Car Show – Downtown Fort Collins – May 30th Head downtown and wander among the hundreds of hot rods, vintage cars, and classic trucks on display. It’s a great time to daydream. Free. http://downtownfortcollins.com/events/old-town-car-show
