Tuesday 10: A Sampling of July Events

Today is a special edition of Tuesday 10…because it’s Wednesday 10! That’s what happens when time gets away from you.

Summer days…sunshine…Adirondack chair…a cold glass of wine and fish grilling in the background, poodle begging my side. Real estate is hopping in Fort Collins this year (a bit like the hundreds of rabbits in our neighborhood), but there’s still time to enjoy what makes the season special.

In Fort Collins, July is the season of outdoor music, picnics, and finding any excuse to be outdoors. My family likes takes advantage of the warm nights by grilling and making summer salads. One of our favorite recipes is Panzanella. It’s always a hit at 4th of July BBQ’s.

Here’s a sampling of July events including Independence Day and beyond:

1. Old Fashioned 4th at the 1879 Avery House – July 4th – 10AM-2PM – Victorian games and crafts, live music, activities, and historic characters. For a break from the heat, go inside the Avery House for their special display on the Avery’s trip to Japan and China. Free admission, donations encouraged. http://poudrelandmarks.org/

2. City Park- 4th of July- City Park hosts several events for the 4th. Start at 7:30AM with Firecracker 5K. From there, rest at the Old Timers Baseball Game (9:30AM). Enjoy live music from 4:15PM to 9:30PM. Finally watch the fireworks, estimated start 9:35PM depending on the weather and conditions. 3. 80’s Flashback Week- North Aztlan Community Center- July 13th-17thDig out that old workout gear (legwarmers, anyone?). Fitness classes include 80s Dance Party, Yoga, Fat Blast, and Zumba. Big hair and bright colors recommended. http://www.fcgov.com/common/pdfs/spotlight-pdf.php?id=1142

4. Downtown Summer Sales- July 16th, 17th, 18th, & 19thA great excuse to head downtown and shop for savings (or get ice cream at Kilwins). http://downtownfortcollins.com/events/downtown-summer-sales

5. French Nest Open-Air Market- July 18th- 9AM-3PM- Make a downtown day! Go shopping at the sales, go shopping at the Farmers Market, and go shopping at the open-air market. 6. Bohemian Nights Presents Thursday Night Live Concerts- July 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th– 354 Walnut St- 7PM-9PM- Free concerts showcasing Colorado’s musical talent. http://downtownfortcollins.com/events/bohemian-nights-presents-thursday-night-live-concert-series

7. Brewery Yoga For a Cause- Fort Collins Brewery- July 5th & 19th– 9AM-10AM- Enjoy an hour of power yoga followed by an FCB brew or Bloody Mary. $15, proceeds benefit FoCo Café. http://downtownfortcollins.com/events/br

8. 30th Anniversary at the Farm- Lee Martinez Farm- July 25th Rope tricks, yodeling, food, and an old fashioned barn dance. Free admission. http://www.fcgov.com/recreation/thefarm.php

9. Garden a’Fare Wine Night- Gardens on Spring Creek- July 25th– 5PM-8PM- 5 courses paired featuring produce grown in the gardens paired with wines. Live music by The T-Band. $75 per person. http://www.fcgov.com/gardens/programsspecial-events/special-events/garden-afare

10. Holiday Twin Drive-In Theatre- Technically not a July special event, but an excellent summer activity. Two movies per screen are featured each night. Pack dinner, pillows, and bug spray. Movies start at dusk. $7 per person. http://www.holidaytwindrivein.com/
