10 Things to Do In August

Summer weather has settled in on Fort Collins and so has the heat (although my favorite oldest daughter in Austin says we have it easy). In Northern Colorado, August is about enjoying the outdoors, preferably with a good friend and a cold beverage.

Check out these 10 August events:

1. Indulge in chocolate, tea, and coffee during the Caffeine Crawl – Aug 7th – Fort Collins- 5 possible routes. Pick them based on if you want to walk, bike, or drive. http://www.caffeinecrawl.com/fort-collins-tickets.html

2. View sculptures during Loveland Sculpture Weekend – Aug 8th-9th – Enjoy the sunshine and America’s largest outdoor juried sculpture show. http://www.artintheparkloveland.com/; http://www.sculptureinthepark.org/; http://www.thegroupinc.com/blog/2015/07/sculpture-in-the-park-2015-august-8th-9th/

3. Bring out the camping gear and head to the 2015 Arise Music Festival – Aug 7th-9th – Sunrise Ranch, Loveland – Over 100 + artists across 6 stages. Bring a yoga mat for workshops at the Yoga Zone (but don’t overdo the downward dogs). http://www.arisefestival.com/2015/

4. Catch up on back to school shopping at Crazy Days at the Marketplace at Centerra – Aug 8th-9th – Back to school promotions, sidewalk sales, and activities. http://www.centerra.com/events/display/292

5. Pick up a furry friend at the Poudre Pet & Feed Super Adoption Event – Aug 8th – Fort Collins – Baci would never forgive me if I brought home another dog without consulting him, fortunately plenty of vendors will be on hand with plenty of goodies. Adoptions not required (but certainly encouraged). https://www.naturalfeedstore.com/content/news-events

6. Celebrate World Elephant Day with An Afternoon Tea at the Global Village Museum – Art and silent auctions will be available for purchase. A portion of proceeds will go to help elephant conservation and protection. http://globalvillagemuseum.org/event/an-afternoon-tea-to-celebrate-world-elephant-day/

7. Watch the stars at Bobcat Ridge – Aug 15th – Fort Collins – Stargazing. Telescopes will be provided. Remember to bring a blanket and bug spray. https://naturetracker.fcgov.com/

8. Enjoy three days of music at NewWestFest in downtown Fort Collins – Aug 14th, 15th, 16th – Headliners this year include Flotbots, Steve Miller Band, and Rodrigo Y Gabriela. http://downtownfortcollins.com/events/bohemian-nights-at-newwestfest

9. Eat roasted or boiled corn at the Old Fashioned Corn Roast Festival -Aug 21-22 – Loveland – If you’re feeling daring, compete in the corn eating contest or corn shucking completion. http://www.loveland.org/TheCornRoastFestival/

10. Grab tomatoes and fresh vegetables at the Farmers Market – Saturdays and Sundays (depending on location) – I’ve mentioned the market several times, but August starts the peak for produce. Don’t resist the heirloom tomatoes…they’re amazing. http://www.fortcollinsfm.com/
